COIL 2008 Invitation | Performance Space 122

Dear ,

We are thrilled to invite you to attend COIL 2008, Performance Space 122’s 3rd annual festival of new work, scheduled to coincide for your convenience with the APAP conference and the Under The Radar Festival. This year we have work at Performance Space 122 and two other sites in Manhattan in dance, table dancing, contemporary dance, cabaret, multi-media rock opera and more.

For theater and music we offer internationally acclaimed ensemble TEAM’s smash hit Particularly in the Heartland (Edinburgh Fringe First Winner), the wildly bizarre Banana Bag and Bodice’s rock show The Fall and Rise of the Rising Fallen (Best Production, Dublin Fringe Festival), John Moran’s strange and beautiful opera/ballet/children’s TV show What if Saori Had A Party? (Saori’s Birthday), and Italian-born composer Paola Prestini and Vision into Art’s brand new piece VioLens a visceral multi-media choral experience. At Henry St. Settlement we have a Performance Space 122 commission by Rob Roth and punk sensation Theo and the Skyscrapers – a post apocalyptic rock / punk multi-media opera called Screen Test.

Czech Lhotakova & Soukup bring us Beethoven Live an irreverent piece of dance theater brought to life by 4 “real people” ages 15-25, Maria Hassabi will present an encore of her 2007 duet Gloria, and Deganit Shemy, lauded Israeli choreographer, will preview Iodine, a new work dissecting self-exploration and self-consciousness.

We are also pleased to once again present The Best of Edinburgh, winner of the Carol Tambor Award. This year London-based 1927 will bring us their satiric cabaret extravaganza Between the Devil and the Deep Blue Sea. After winning every award they could at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival this summer, we are thrilled to be presenting them from January 9-27.

Due to the costs of presenting a program of this scope, and the number of presenters in town, we have had to revise our historic policy of not charging for professionals. Unless other arrangements are made with the company directly, for professionals, every show except one (C'est Duckie) is now USD$10. Further, we have a COIL pass for USD$50 which allows entry into all eight of our shows and a special discount to C’est Duckie, the Olivier-award winning show by London’s post-poofter-purveryors of working class entertainment, Duckie.

Please note, while a Coil pass allows attendance at all performances except C'est Duckie, seats are not guaranteed unless reserved. We anticipate that as in other years, several shows will sell out (especially C'est Duckie) – thus I strongly recommend you reserve your time now. COIL pass tickets can be exchanged subject to availability.

To make your reservations now, simply download the 2008 COIL Reservation form (.xls), make your selections and send it back as an attachment to boxoffice@ps122.org. For more information on any of the performances listed above please visit ps122.org's COIL 2008 homepage.
