Critical Praise for Lustre and Recent Press:
- CRITIC'S PICK * * * * (4 STARS) “Best known as the “female” half of the outrageous lounge duo Kiki & Herb, cross-dressing raconteur and rabble-rouser Justin Bond leaves his alter ego at the sanitarium for his latest glitter-encrusted extravaganza... Bond mixes high camp, haute couture and heady references. The effect is dizzying, riotous and unexpectedly moving; for all of his superficial fabulousness, Bond's emotional nakedness is what makes him fierce.”
— Raven Snook, Time Out New York
- “Mr. Bond’s fabulosity is matched by a trenchant wit, and his over-the-top stories are smartly edged with politics, sexual or otherwise. “
– The New York Times
- “Justin Bond Proves to be the Hostess with the Mostest” – New York Press
- "[Lustre is] a fantastic evening that pushes boundaries while never ceasing to be entertaining!" - TheaterMania
- “A consummate cabaret entertainer” – Backstage

Justin Bond and Friends
Lustre: A Midwinter Trans-Fest
Special guests this week: Kate Bornstein, Novice Theory, Agnes de Garon, and Lisa Jackson
Featuring: Our Lady J, Glenn Marla, Nathan Carrera ...and The Pixie Harlots;
Heat up your winter nights with Ethyl Eichelberger Award recipient and Tony Nominated performer Justin Bond and friends as they serve up a heady mix of Glamour, Gender Queer Cabaret, and Sexy Provocation.
More about the guests:
KATE BORNSTEIN (Wednesday), born Albert Bornstein on March 15, 1948, underwent sex reassignment surgery in 1986. She jokingly refers to her SRS as her 'pussycat surgery'. The surgeon Dr. Stanley Biber performed Ms. Bornstein's SRS. In her book 'Gender Outlaw' Kate states concerning her artificial vagina that 'I like that thang'.
NOVICE THEORY (Thursday) was a breakout star in "Weimar New York" at Joe's Pub in January of this year and again at "Weimar New York" at SF MOMA in February. He combines virtuosic composition and musicianship with a magnetic stage presence and a thrilling voice. In an era of hyperbolic marketing, it's no exaggeration to say that Novice Theory is a true original.
AGNES DE GARON (Friday) is an actor, singer, dancer, choreographer, director and is one
of the original Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence. She is currently directing a production of Mona Rogers In Person in New Orleans.
LISA JACKSON (Saturday): In the early '80's, a young boy in Fayetteville, Georgia, watched the likes of Blondie, Cyndi Lauper and the Go-Go's on MTV and made homemade music videos with his cousins in their basement. A few decades later, this same kid is now a talented cross-dressing singer and musician living in New York City. He (she) is breaking out of the basement to front her own band which pays tribute to the women of '80's pop who influenced not just her love of music, but also her taste in clothes.

Kristin Kosmas
Hello Failure
“(Kosmas is) a rare sort of poet who can bring you along on rhapsodic flights of storytelling, like an expert rafter running the rapids of a wild and unruly word river.”
–The Seattle Times
Kristen Kosmas' newest work is a sprawling associative neo-realistic comedy of beauty involving seven submariners' wives, one counterfeit civil war ghost, one lusty renegade hairdresser and a poignant potted plant all making it through the day...barely.
Acclaimed playwright and co-founder of Obie-Award winning Little Theater, Kristen Kosmas will premier her new work Hello Failure at P.S.122 this season. In Hello Failure, Kosmas' singular voice and distinctive theatrical sensibility create an oddly affecting and delightfully disorienting world, where bridges and communication collapse, and little attempts at kindness are botched or lost in the mail. Misha Berson of The Seattle Times says Kosmas is "a rare sort of poet who can bring you along on rhapsodic flights of storytelling, like an expert rafter running the rapids of a wild and unruly word river." Kosmas' work has been seen across the country and in New York City at venues including Dixon Place, Little Theater, Barbes, BRIC, Nada, the Ontological/Hysteric Downstairs Series, and The Ohio.

Kevin Augustine and the Lone Wolf Tribe
Bride
"Utter genius—gorgeous and scary and heartbreaking. The images that Augustine creates will haunt you for days." - Martin Denton NYTheatre.com
“Masterful puppetry and pulsating stage presence” - Village Voice
Psychologically dark and brutally poetic, Bride is an epic puppet work for adults. Making its world premier at P.S.122 this season, it is written and performed by Kevin Augustine and accompanied by a woodwind quintet conducted by Andrea La Rose of Anti-Social Music. Teasing the existential and macabre out of religious history and influenced by the works of Samuel Becket and Mary Shelly's Frankenstein, Bride investigates the fate that befell the ancient Goddess-The Great Mother-while taking a critical look at the bloody legacy of her patriarchal successor, God the Father. Five puppeteers, a solo dancer, and complex aerial puppetry sequences bring Bride to life.
Kevin Augustine is artistic director of Lone Wolf Tribe; a one-man theatre ensemble composed of himself (the wolf) and his tribe of foam rubber puppets. In Augustine's hands (as well as feet) ordinary foam is transformed, hand carved for maximum expressiveness, into living breathing creatures-strangely unsettling while at the same time extremely tender. This bizarre and evocative partnership makes Lone Wolf Tribe performances a truly powerful, and uniquely mesmerizing theatre experience. Established in 1997 LWT is winner of the San Francisco Fringe Festival Critic's Choice Award and the New York International Fringe Festival Overall Excellence Award for Solo Show and has performed at prestigious theatre festivals and artistic centers in the US and abroad.

Annie Dorsen
Democracy in America
Democracy in America is an experiment in political performance: it is not art about politics or ideology but rather art that is made in a political way. A collage made from the cacophonous jumble of ideas, opinions and attitudes floating in the American ether, Democracy in America is a continually shifting 4-dimensional billboard advertising the desires of the multitude.
Up until the 29th of February, using eBay, Craigslist, and a performance specific website all elements of the performance were ON SALE. The creators offered "for sale" space within the performance to both individuals and groups which could potentially be used for any purpose the purchaser desires. This may include statements of the purchaser's opinions, jokes that tickle the purchaser's fancy, pre-existing texts of his or her choosing, or stories or anecdotes from the purchaser's life. In addition to the spoken material, the physical or non-verbal actions and all elements of the design were on sale. One might choose a particular image to be shown onstage, a costume for one of the performers, a sound cue to be played, or a gesture or sequence of movement. Product placement or other advertising opportunities to corporations, small businesses and groups were also available to be purchased.
Now the sale is over and the production is slated to begin. It's time for Annie Dorsen, director of the Broadway sensation Passing Strange, to piece these bits together. Come March 30th the world will get to see what this performative experiment looks like.
Democracy in America makes literal the so-called "marketplace of ideas," in which those with means purchase access to the privately-owned technologies of opinion-making and information dissemination, and those without money are the passive receivers of views which supposedly represent them.
Democracy in America is a copresentation of Performance Space 122 and The Foundry Theatre

Jay Scheib
Untitled Mars (this title may change)
Taking a cue from the space industry, Jay Scheib's latest work pits hard Science against Philip K. Dick as interplanetary speculation runs amok, the indigenous population gets screwed, and a strange "anomalous" kid seems to hold all the answers. Developed at MIT with a team of Mars researchers and anthropologists, a mission to colonize the Red Planet is revving up for 2017. Imagining what might happen once we get there, Scheib drops seven performers into a simulated Martian society. Can't make ends meet on Earth? Consider a one-way ticket to Mars!

Jay Scheib featured in Helen Shaw’s “Radar Roundup”
“The title "Under the Radar" may imply undiscovered potential. But in the case of Mr. Scheib, we are actually seeing an already major talent coming triumphantly into its own.”
“Untitled Mars (this title may change)” directed by Jay Scheib makes its world premiere at P.S. 122 this spring: April 8 – 27.

Discounts for Richard Foreman's
Deep Trance Behavior in Potatoland
DEEP TRANCE BEHAVIOR IN POTATOLAND (A RICHARD FOREMAN THEATER MACHINE) uses digital material filmed in Japan and England and takes place on a stage in which everything is askew--the windows, the walls (covered with turn of the century "spirit" photographs) and the furniture, which includes two pianos.
As he plunges deeper than ever into ravishing abstract theater, Richard Foreman evokes the atmosphere of a séance, combining the tableaus filmed in Japan and England with five live New York actors who navigate a sinking grand piano. The actors inhabiting the stage at the Ontological Theater are Joel Israel, Caitlin Mcdonough-Thayer, Sarah Dahlen, Caitlin Rucker and Fulya Peker.

A new work by Liam Steel
Liam Steel created major ripples in New York's dance scene when Stan Won't Dance performed Sinner at Performance Space 122 in 2006. John Rockwell of the NY Times called it "the best dance event of the season." Steel returns to the Tri-State area as part of Peak Performances @ Montclair State University with Knots, a work based on the bestseller by psychologist R.D. Laing. This work was created for CoisCéim Dance Theatre of Ireland and commissioned by CoisCéim's Artistic Director David Bolger. Steel uses his unique approach to combine literacy and emotional honesty with raw muscle. Performances run from March 6th to March 9th in the Alexander Kasser Theater at Montclair State University in New Jersey.
Tickets are only $15. For more information or to order tickets go to peakperfs.org.
