Lewis Forever
'LEWIS FOREVER: Freak the Room'

World Premiere

pure

LEWIS FOREVER is three sisters and a brother, a director, two dancers and a musician; a family living half in New York and half in Berlin, half Dominican and half Jewish American, a performance collective and a bloodline. What happens when we freak the fiction of cultural and familial identification? There is play and fantasy. There is sex and violence. There is an impostor. Words seem to come out almost right. Reactions test their relationships to actions and everything appears as more than it seems. LEWIS FOREVER's home lies between continents, identities and meanings Performance Space 122 is their living room, and they will freak it.

Edit Kaldor
'Point Blank'

World Premiere

pure

"The purpose of life explored through the lens of a camera... One hell of a performance!"
- Le Soir, Belgium

The definitive spy-ware performance, ‘Point Blank’ is a voyeur's paradise. For years Edit Kaldor has been observing, taking 'spy-photos', and capturing people’s private moments.
19 year-old Nada joins the audience in performing an imagery autopsy - uncovering implications and patterns. Become witness to the wide range of and, at times, excessive human behavior.

Edit Kaldor was born in Budapest. At the age of 13 she immigrated with her mother to the United States, where she lived for ten years. After receiving her degree in English and Theater at Barnard College (New York) and University College (London), she worked for 6 years with Peter Halasz (Squat theater/Love theater, New York), collaborating on numerous theater performances and filmscripts. She then enrolled at DasArts (the postgraduate performing arts center in Amsterdam), where she started making her own theatre pieces, which soon received international acclaim.

Yanira Castro + Company
Dark Horse/Black Forest

"Castro's upcoming duet takes voyeurism to a precipice... it doesn't happen on a stage but in a bathroom like yours."
-Lori Ortiz

pure

"As much an installation artist as a choreographer, [Castro] creates intricate environments in which lighting, costumes and set share equal weight with steps."
- Gia Kourlas, The New York Times

Dark Horse/Black Forest expands exploration of audience environments: how an observer and performer connect and how space influences how we participate in a performance. The performers and audience inhabit the space together. Yanira Casto + Company present their intensely performed love story in the most intimate of spaces: your bathroom.

These privately booked performances are made available exclusively through Performance Space 122 and for a limited time only. Please email darkhorse@ps122.org for reservations and more information.

Novice Theory

with special guest Aria Orion

pure
Multi-instrumentalist, singer and songwriter Novice Theory (aka Geo Wyeth) in concert as the fifth and final installment of "FIVE for FIVE: Celebrating TEN," a series of shows celebrating Earl Dax's five-year mark as an independent curator and producer in conjunction with the 10-Year Anniversary of Joe's Pub. Most recently Novice Theory was a featured guest performer in Justin Bond's "Lustre" which played for 20 performances at Soho Theatre in London. While he was across the pond, he appeared on "Later with Jools Holland," Britain's premiere live music television program, an episode also featuring live performances by Grace Jones, Razor Lite and Akon.

Novice Theory returns to Joe's Pub after performing a sold-out debut New York solo concert at the Pub in April, 2008. For his sophomore outing, he will perform excerpts from a forthcoming song cycle called "At the End We Listen" which is loosely based on the myth of Icarus and Daedulus. The program begins with a short set by the Aria Orion, a prog folk band fronted by Jules Gimbrone.
