You have a date with the devil! Inspired by the myriad expressions of the devil's persona in French opera, Mephisto Project is an experimental work combining opera, literature, dance and videography. The evening's program will include scenes from Berlioz's La Damnation de Faust, Meyerbeer's Robert le Diable, Gounod's Faust, Offenbach's Les Contes d'Hoffmann, Hervé's Le Petit Faust, and Massenet's Grisélidis.
This production challenges the traditional boundaries between performer and audience, allowing the audience member to become part of the drama. The legend of Mephistopheles will be told through the genius of the French operatic repertory with the counterpoint of dance, video and spoken word as the audience follows the performers in this unorthodox journey to hell and back. Originally conceived and staged by co-artistic directors, Jean-Philippe Clarac and Oliver Deloeuil; lighting design by Rick Martin.
