Performance Space 122’s Mobile Walking Tour connects the history of performance with the history of our neighborhood through a free self-guided mobile tour.

Location 1: STUNT

Directions

When looking at Performance Space 122’s building, take note of the courtyard area where STUNT took place. Audiences spilled out into 1st Avenue to catch a glimpse of David Leslie plunging five stories. 

Location 2: Tompkins Square Park

Tompkins Square Park: An iconic park at the center of the East Village, Tompkins Square Park embodies the rebellious spirit of the East Village past. Artists have long called this park home, throwing impromptu performances and live events for passerby audiences.

Location 3: Pyramid Club

Pyramid Club, 101 Avenue A, New York, NY, 10009 

Directions

The Pyramid Club was a part of the East Village club scene in the 1980’s which embraced the unique performance community. Ethyl Eichelberger, a renowed drag performer, could be seen here on Monday nights portraying influential women of history such as Nefertiti, Lucretia Borgia, and Catherine the Great.

For more than a decade, HOWL! Festival has been an annual community event curating exhibitions and staging live events that showcase the historical legacy and contemporary culture of the East Village and Lower East Side. PS122 and HOWL! have aligned our organizations with the adventurous audiences and experimental artists shared.
